Client servicing Model – A proven method

How do you serve your clients? What’s your objective at the end of the day? Is it generating business out of the client’s pockets? Or to make more sales via word of mouth and references?

Certainly you are running your company keeping long run profitability in mind. The ultimate solution should be like how much value (ROI+sales+rankings and more) we are actually creating for the client. So it is essential to keep your clients happy so that they are gonna refer their business partners and networks to your for complete digital marketing solution. Most importantly, as digital marketing is a long process, so client renewal rate should be high enough (once again dependent on happiness and trust) to keep the cash flow intact.

Understanding the need of the clients:

  • Most of the clients have same demand: Sales, Leads, Inquiries etc.
  • Few clients will be interested to build their brands and visibility.
  • For some of the clients search engine ranking is the topmost priority.
  • Some may ask you to run Social media campaign and
  • Some may seek Email marketing service from you.

The problem areas while addressing clients need:

  • When a project arrives, most of the time we hardly analyze the need of the project and thus try to implement average stuffs like link building, content etc. Problem no 1
  • Sometimes we find it difficult to assess the exact digital marketing mix to generate ROI for the client. Here by digital marketing mix, I want to say a right balance of SEO+PPC+SMO+GPO.
  • Many a times we fail to guide the client what he actually needs. He might be asking for email marketing service from you (he might have heard from his friend that email marketing is important). But whether at all he needs that service or not, we do not analyze. We just continue to do email marketing.
  • Client doesn’t understand our language like onpage changes, link building and so on.

What should we do?

  • Talk to the client guiding and explaining the need of the business. Explain what channels will be useful for him and the reason behind it.
  • Communicate with the client on regular basis with documents on current market, what we are doing, suggestion on website changes and the changes will help him in increasing conversions etc.
  • The above factors will increase trust. When you start a new project, client is not known to you and he has invested lot of money with you. It is natural that client will ask many questions regularly, may escalate you several times, may not respond you, maybe he will not permit you to do the changes, no FTP access etc. Keep yourself cool and try to guide the client as what you have done or what you intend to do, possible impacts on project etc. Be honest with you.
  • The first challenge is to convince the client. Once a trust factor build, you can do lot more things with the project.
  • First and foremost try to generate few quick sales – choose PPC or Affiliate if possible. Trust factor increases.

Things to keep in mind when you go for a client call:

  • SEO managers do take client calls whenever needed.
  • Try to guide the client with latest updates and strategies and probable impact.
  • First listen to her and then reply.
  • If there is any technical problem, ask her to drop a mail and within 24 hrs you get back to her with all the points explained.
  • Do not always try to upsell, instead gain her faith first.

How CERN is related to Digital Marketing?

“The European Organization for Nuclear Research (French: Organisation européenne pour la recherche nucléaire), known as CERN or Cern is an international organization whose purpose is to operate the world’s largest particle physics laboratory, in the northwest suburbs of Geneva on the Franco–Swiss border (46°14′3″N 6°3′19″E). Established in 1954, the organization has 20 European member states.

The term CERN is also used to refer to the laboratory, which employs just under 2,400 full-time employees and hosts some 10,000 visiting scientists and engineers, representing 608 universities and research facilities and 113 nationalities.
CERN’s main function is to provide the particle accelerators and other infrastructure needed for high-energy physics research. Numerous experiments have been constructed at CERN by international collaborations to make use of them. It is also the birthplace of the World Wide Web. The main site at Meyrin also has a large computer centre containing very powerful data-processing facilities primarily for experimental data analysis and, because of the need to make them available to researchers elsewhere, has historically been a major wide area networking hub.” — Wikipedia

Most of us especially the common men came to know about the CERN and its activities due to the research on Gods particle. This is the most debated topic from the last few years.

The terms Internet and World Wide Web are often used in everyday speech without much distinction. However, the Internet and the World Wide Web are not one and the same. The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks. In contrast, the Web is one of the services that runs on the Internet. Viewing a web page on the World Wide Web normally begins either by typing the URL of the page into a web browser or by following a hyperlink to that page or resource. The web browser then initiates a series of communication messages, behind the scenes, in order to fetch and display it. Web is an application running on the internet.
Digital marketing is all about market the knowledge base around a product, sharing information on that, gathering fan-followers and thus producing a market for the product and services. If WWW is the super-highway of channelizing information, then obviously digital marketing is the inseparable part of WWW. Without the web we won’t be able to reach or let the information travel to the target audience or via internet.

“Digital marketing is the use of internet connected devices to engage a customer with online advertising in order to promote products and services. Internet connected devices are those such as web browsers, smart phones and game consoles. As technology develops more devices become able of internet browsing and the digital marketing potential that comes with it.” – Wikipedia
Not only the Digital Marketing, the modern business as well do largely dependent on the internet and thus on WWW. In April 2010, India experienced a decrease in overall internet connectivity speed due to the Fibre Cut at SEA-ME-WE 4 undersea submarine cable system which connects South East Asia and Europe. In the year 2008 too, there was a similar issue with the whole country waiting for Internet Bandwidth which was lost due to International undersea cable network breakage. In 2011, A report from JP Morgan forecasted that e-commerce revenue will grow to $680 billion worldwide up 18.9 percent from 2010 revenue. Online retail commerce in the U.S. alone will grow 13.2 percent to $187 billion. J.P. Morgan anticipates that global e-commerce revenue will hit a whopping $963 billion by 2013. One can easily understand the loss took place due to this connectivity problem in online business.

QR Code and Advertising Opportunity

The growing focus on QR Code on part of the mobile marketers and advertisers will be influential enough to the website developers and Digital Marketers as well.

While you scan the 2D code all the information you can fetch about the website and the related businesses. This is also useful for the small and mid sized businesses as those might not have the capabilities to run the SEO campaign. They can generate the QR code for the business and make it available as a display ad campaign. This is quite true for other brands as well.

Google, Bing and Yahoo would be interested in showing the QR code in their display network and the cost of the display will function same as pay per load OR pay per 1000 load. Even the desktop and the laptop or the Ipad device users can scan the same code and collect the information.

The QR Code will open a complete new door for the search marketers and they also have to think of ways to optimise the QR code according to the landing page among all the relevant QR codes available. The Search Engines also get benefited as more and more businesses will come for display purpose around the world.

Are you ready for the Qr Code Display?

Beauty of Link Building (Same Industry): A case Study

Link building is one of the most important parts of search engine rankings. Links from the high PR page with related theme valued best. Moreover we are happy if the link is contextual and from a paragraph or sentence.

I would like to share a case study to work with 5 sites at a time in the same industry. This was really an tremendous expeirment for us. The most important part of the job was to rank the inner pages.

Industry: Movers and packers
No of Sites: 5 (A, B, C, D and E)
Site A and B are based at Chicago.
Site C is based on VA.
Site D is at CA.
Site E is based st TX.

All the 5 sites are different with their proprietorship, different owners. The common pages for most of the movers sites are local move, long move, packing, international move etc. We convinced the clients to make them understand the value of link exchange with same industry sites. So they were ready to do the same. But the risk was that we cannot exchange links between A and B as both the sites are based at Chicago. They are competitor to each other.

So we avoid the geographical link exchange risk. So we move in this way: A to C to B to D to E to A. But not for the same page at the same time. We had a mixture of inner pages like packing, interstate move, long distance move and so on. So we hedged the geographical and same page (type) target risk. And the result was terrific even with two word keywords.

So if any agency had got several SEO projects on same industry, they can think off the strategy.

Feedbacks are welcome.

How to beat Anti-propaganda link in competition to your site

Recently I faced a mammoth challenge in terms of beating a anti-propaganda link containing the keywords of your domain.

Ex: Your site: http://www.abc.com
Keywords: abc and abc.com
The anti-propaganda theme: Once you type any of the above keywords, the anti-propaganda page is appearing within 10. What to do?

We took few steps to push the page to no. 2 or 3 in SERP.

We created 5 articles on 5 different topics covering the services or products of your site. We spinned each article to create 15 to 16 unique articles (more than 50% uniqueness) containing the keywords abc and abc.com and of course few other targeted keywords at the same time.

We start building social network blogs: First Article having 15 blogs and so the set of 5 articles would result in 75 blogs.

Linking Pattern: For the first set of article containing the keywords abc and abc.com would be linked to the next set of articles and the second one would target the next set and so on. Well one can also use the process to linkup the first 5 articles to the next set’s first 5 and so on. The logic is that you have to channelise the traffic through your keywords within the article sets and of course to your main site at the end.

Once you have all the 75 links, bookmark them using the keywords. Try to build RSS feeds and submit them to the RSS bookamarking sites.

Go for PPT, VIDEO, Press release, forum postings, document sharing. You can then be able to push the site back.

Page load factor and Visitor Bounce rate

How long a visitor can wait to check your webpage, technically speaking the Landing Page? Its around 3-5 seconds to 8-10 seconds. I would prefer 3 to 5 seconds as the 3-second usability test is related to the page load factor.

From the few days we were wondering as to how the visitors are getting bounced from the respective landing pages of http://www.humtumlove.com/ and http://www.itcslive.com/. Even some of them stayed there for 0 second. We sat together, cleared the cache and the browsing history and checked again the page load. It was enormous, taking as long as 20 seconds to open even the home page. We must not talk about the rest of the pages, as they are full of images, videos and music.

Now if SEO is all about to convert the traffic, page load factor is indeed crucial. We had that factor in mind and accordingly we prepared the pages. But somewhere we ignore the basic rule. It’s a great experience for all of us.
