Working with own Website Vs Clients

If you are an In-house SEO, SEM or if your company develop own websites (it could be the prime business to generate revenue through websites) or an amateur having an website, might have or I should say total flexibility to play with the website as compared to working with the clients websites.

Flexibility in terms of the following points that independent web developer could follow:
1. URL Engineering
2. Keyword rich text
3. Having Blog with the same domain
4. Research with news and contents
5. Traffic conversion with the help of Analytics
6. Scope of generating Fresh Content:
-> Now this point seeks some particular attention. Not all the websites have the pages or scope to generate fresh content on a regular basis. And this becomes more difficult when you are dealing with the clients websites. In that case you have to work within a boundary or limitations. But if you are able to convince the clients about the need of this, then only this is possible and the work of SEO becomes a bit easier.

In fact, in the present days the resources are getting lesser and lesser. Competition is rising at a rapid pace. So it could be quite difficult to pull the SERP rank or to maintain it for a longer period of time… and it is specially true for the websites those appoint agencies for the organic marketing but sometimes they failed to understand the pulse of the search marketing.
What to do? Once you have done the primary link building work with the specific contents, try do build a page which will generate fresh contents regularly. The ways are:
a) Blog posts
b) Industry News (in a news box)
c) Glossary generation
d) Forum posts (if there is any)
e) Use of Wikipedia
f) Small Articles and FAQ postings and so on.

If the clients could understand the need to include some of the above points on part of the agencies, then small and medium business could reap benefits from the search marketing and the tasks of the agencies could get easier.

Qualities an SEO should possess

While going for an In-House SEO or SEO analyst, the corporates and the agencies must check the following qualities and criterias within an SEO Analyst.

1. Analytical Power – This will help to design the website, design the content with an analytical view (this entails an unique content). Web analytics analysis would be one of the most important business for the SEO people in addition.

2. Net Savvy –  Perhaps this is the most single handed reason that agencies look in an SEO expert. Quite obvious indeed. You are working with search industry and you are not a net savvy …. how can it be!

3.  Basic tech educated: Must possess some working knowledge with HTML, CSS, Server operations, Content softwares etc.

4. Knowledge of English: He/She is supposed to be comfort with English written and spoken proficiency.

5. Qualification:  Must be a Graduate. Post Graduation in any social science or commerce, business, statistics would be plus and preferable.

6. Model Building Skill:  This specific skill will provide the scope of the marketing style depending on the resources of the website and necessary things to include in addition.

7. Online Strategies: SEO/SEM professional needs to track almost all the search industry news, views, algos, blogs, articles etc. Accordingly he has to set the strategies of his websites. So online strategy making is another job for the SEO people.

8. Management skill:  SEO professional has to manage the team, the tech persons, build liaison with the marketing team, forum management (if there is any), keyword product management, URL engineering, Blog maintenance etc.

The above points the HR persons could consider while recruiting an full time SEO.

Product design with Keyphrase/words – A proven approach

I have been working here in this stock broking house from the last 10 months or so as an in-house SEO as well as equity research assistant. I am assigned with the job to do the SEO of the site and SEM (organic).
In that process I took the help of this blog ( share_market.rediffblogs.com ) to design our products especially the articles. Analytics tracker had been installed in both, the website and to the blog as well.

We got a list of keywords and keyphrases from the blog and the site. Surprisingly we got some of the keyphrases like, “advantage of stocks owned private investor” from the blog (Other keyphrases I cant disclose for some unavoidable reasons) that is quite unique and applicable for designing article also.

My analysis with respect to the above keyphrase is that, private investors are eager to know, obviously unbiased view, the advantages of investment in stock market. In other words, what would be the likely consequences if some private investors hold stocks.

Next Step: Design your articles/informations for the website taking keyphrase guided product (approach might be different – Blog, Analytics, wordtracker).
Do some optimisation for the page.

Advantage:  You could have an idea of an unique informative article for the site. Nevertheless, you will have an unique title of that article. In addition, one can get an overview about the nature of the visitors, the need/demand, and placement of the products.

Channelising the Web traffic according to Keywords/phrase

Once you have the analytics for your site, you can view the clicks according to the keywords, keyphrases, regions and so on. The SEO ans SEM efforts will help you to get a handsome list of keywords and keyphrases. So that you can design your products. (Product management by keywords).

1. Make a list of the keywords/phrases for which a page is being viewed most.
2. Do research/analysis for the keywords taking other keywords from overture, wordtracker (must be relevant to those you got from the analytics).
3. Keep in mind the specific nature of keyphrases of the search world or what is called narrow search. Ex: Previously people used to look for say car insurance. Now it is more region specific or company specific or else specific like, car insurance in california; geico car insurance midwest etc. So search became more narrower in these days.
4. Once you have a good no. of visitors and list of keywords and phrases, concentrate on SEO (the page designing part and usability).
5. Then channelise the chunk of visitors to the specific pages guided by the Keyword Products.

Search Engine do follows Algorithms

Search Engine Optimization and Marketing incorporates the Algorithms coded by the Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, — GYM in short). Different engines have different set of algorithms that is programming. Algorithms are predefined set of commands/programs, on the basis of which websites are given values by the search engines. And websites do come at SERPs (Search Engine Result Page).

Now the question is, what are those predefined commands and/or Algo?
1. Content Relevancy
2. No. of Back links (relevancy)
3. No. of outgoing links (relevancy)
4. Site Navigation
5. Easy user usability
6. Informations to the Visitors
7. Physical existence of the Company
8. Keywords (that will reveal what the site is about)
9. Promptness of the website (email, queries etc.)
10. What the site is doing for the visitors  and so on …

Google, the search Giant, has own structure of algos to provide importance to the websites. Like, backlinks, page ranks, keywords, title, meta title, relevancy etc. Page rank is statistically/mathematically defined measurement. It tells what is the level of importance of the page among the billions of web pages.

SEO and SEM professional all over the world try their level best to raise the websites to the serp with a no. of keywords so that online marketing and business development could get an ease. To them it is most important to have an understanding the algorithm of the search engines to reap the advantage at best. In fact, no search engine disclose as to what algo do they incorporate or developing. Some are guess work, in house research work, leak outs, expertise reports, expectations and so on.
